Open—Shape is a free chord and progression tool for guitar. It finds real, playable chord voicings across the whole fretboard in any tuning — 33 built-in tunings, or one you create yourself — lets you add a capo, wire chords into a progression, and hear it played back on recorded acoustic strings. It runs in any browser and on iOS, with no account.
Does Open—Shape support alternate and custom tunings?
Yes. It includes 33 built-in tunings — Standard, Drop D, DADGAD, Open G, Open D, Nashville and more — and Pro adds unlimited custom tunings, which you build by ear with the tuner or by choosing a note for each string. Every chord shape recalculates for whatever tuning you are in.
Can I use a capo with Open—Shape?
Yes. Set a capo position and every voicing and progression updates to match. You can also choose whether the capo keeps the fingering shape or keeps the key.
Can I build chord progressions in Open—Shape?
Yes. Add chords to a progression, reorder them, hear the whole thing played back strummed or picked, and save it. The free plan includes three saved progressions; Pro is unlimited. On the Canvas you can wire chords into a path fed by a single tuning and capo.
Does Open—Shape have a guitar tuner?
Yes. Play one open string and the microphone-based tuner tells you which string it is and how far off — including for alternate and custom tunings.
