Autumn Leaves is built on two mirrored ii–V–I progressions — one major, one minor — descending through the circle of fourths. Cm7–F7 resolves to Bb major, then Am7♭5–D7 resolves to G minor, the same shape reused a fourth apart. It's one of the most-taught progressions in jazz because that single idea, repeated, teaches almost the whole vocabulary of ii–V motion.
