This isn't how Comfortably Numb was originally played. David Gilmour recorded it in Standard tuning — this page takes the real, widely-documented verse and chorus chords and refrets them in Jimmy Page's own D G C G C D tuning (the one behind "The Rain Song" on this site), just to hear one prog-rock landmark inside another's tuning.

The verse loops a bleak, descending minor progression — i–♭VII–♭VI–iv in B minor — that never quite resolves. The chorus breaks into D major and holds there, the harmonic equivalent of the song's own lyric: numbness giving way, briefly, to something bigger.
